Our Mission

Our mission is to work with Kenora and the surrounding communities to provide shelter, care, and compassion to all cats and help them find their forever homes. We are run fully by volunteers and donations.

The Kenora Cat Shelter was established in February 2003 when the Kenora Humane Society closed. Celynn Alcock recognized the need for a cat shelter and generously opened up her heart and home to the cats in desperate need of rescuing. After 20 years of running the shelter, the volunteers joined together to help Celynn retire. We are so thankful to Celynn for all the tireless work she has put into the shelter and into the cats.

The shelter changed ownership and moved locations in July 2023. It is now operated by a board of 6 dedicated volunteers. We have around 80 volunteers that help keep the shelter afloat and running smoothly 365 days a year.

Thanks to the dedication, compassion, and endless efforts of our volunteers - The Kenora Cat Shelter has been able to help over 4,150 cats and counting.
