What To Do If You’ve Found A Cat
1. If you can safely bring the cat inside, please keep them completely separated from your own pets. Found cats may have fleas, ear mites, parasites or an unknown vaccination history. A garage, porch, spare bathroom or another warm, quiet space can work as a temporary safe place.
2. If found within City of Kenora limits, Call City of Kenora Bylaw: (807) 467-2166 during their open hours Monday–Saturday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. The cat must be contained in a carrier, house or safe space for Bylaw to pick them up.
3. Take a photo and report the sighting to Bylaw, the Kenora Cat Shelter and Kenora Veterinary Clinic. Even if you can't catch them, a sighting can help someone looking for their missing cat narrow down where they are.
4. Check for identification:
Collar/tag/airtag
Microchip - the Kenora Cat Shelter or Kenora Veterinary Clinic can scan for one
Tattoo on the inside of their ear
5. You can contact the Kenora Cat Shelter at (807) 468-4648 or message us through Facebook. There are also emergency volunteer contact numbers posted on the sign at the shelter gate.
FOUND A CAT OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS OR AFTER POUND HOURS?
Please contact the Kenora Cat Shelter. We can help find somewhere safe for the cat to stay until the pound reopens.
Cats who may stay with the shelter instead of going to the pound include very young kittens, nursing or pregnant mothers, injured cats, and aggressive or extremely frightened cats.
